Amita R. Patel, MD, CMD, MHA, CPE, is a geriatic psychiatrist in private practice in Dayton, Ohio. She is also Director of Psychiatric Services at several nursing homes in Dayton ,Ohio, and Director of the Geropsychiatry Unit at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St Marys, Ohio. She is formerly Clinical Associate Professor, Department of Psychiatry, Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine in Dayton. Dr Patel received her medical degree at Topiwala National Medical College in Mumbai, India, and completed her psychiatry residency at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where she was chief resident. She is board certified in psychiatry and neurology, with added qualification in geriatric psychiatry.
Dr Patel is a distinguished fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry and a fellow of the American College of Forensic Examiners, and is certified as a medical director by the American Medical Directors Association. She has conducted clinical trials, including an investigator-initiated trial on pharmacogenomic testing in clinical practice, and has given many presentations at national scientific meetings and regional conferences. Dr Patel was honored with the Professional Excellence Award from Boonshoft School of Medicine and the Clinician of the Year Award from the American Association of Geriatric Psychiatry.
Dr Patel has coauthored articles in publications such as the Journal of Managed Care & Specialty Pharmacy, Journal of the American Medical Directors Association, Medscape General Medicine, Psychiatric Times, and Today’s Geriatric Medicine.
