This session will use an interactive workshop format to teach definitions, types, risk factors, and the general reporting process of elder mistreatment and neglect. Real world cases featuring victims’ true stories will be used to stimulate discussion. We will distribute a screening test, a diagnostic and a management algorithm and practice in small groups utilizing the tools to screen and manage real cases of elder abuse. We will then discuss shelter homes within nursing homes that offer emergency short-term housing and healthcare services to victims of elder abuse. Participants will acquire knowledge and skills that will enable them to gain mastery of the subject matter, allowing for increased recognition, diagnosis, and appropriate reporting of suspected cases. Participants will leave with resources to enable them to be more competent at
screening, diagnosis and reporting of elder abuse.
