• Explain the origin, purpose and intent of SNF QAPI.
• Review the requirements of QAPI, as defined by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ (CMS) revised Requirements of Participation (RoP) for nursing centers.
• Provide definitions and clarity around commonly used terminology including CMS Five Star rating system, Case Mix Index (CMI), infection control, antipsychotic use and regulations, MDS data, and non-clinical elements including food and nutrition services, physical environment.
• Provide a QAPI protocol that can be used by the Medical Director or mid-level practitioner to lead and/or actively engage in QAPI.
• Serving as the designee as the Medical Director, illustrate how Advanced Practice Clinicians (APCs) can also effectively lead and participate in QAPI.
