The session will have at least 3 power stories from 3 presenters. Each story will have an in-depth, unbiased, and deeper reflection of one’s own experiences in the post-acute and long-term care. The story will be one’s own with echoes and reflection that guided the presenter to create a more meaningful connection within themselves, their patients, and staff. The experiences will be reviewed as learning opportunities for personal and professional growth.

These experiences will allow the attendees to find their own experiences within and reflect for enhanced learning. The discussion of the Journey of DEI and personal stories will include but not be limited to sharing one’s own understanding and experiences related to implicit bias, diversity, equity, and inclusion. This venue will provide a safe space for the attendees to analyze and process the knowledge by utilizing creative reflection.

Learning Objectives:

At the completion of this session, learners will be able to:
  • Utilize the art of storytelling and personal reflection to examine the unintended consequences of one’s own implicit bias.
  • To analyze and reflect on one’s own attitude and behavior as a practitioner or leader when it comes to acceptance of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
  • To practice discussing personal assumptions and inadequate knowledge regarding diversity, equity, and inclusion. To assess how it can improve or impede person-centered care.
  • To learn at least one standard approach to addressing issues related to cultural diversity when practicing in post-acute and long-term care.
