Alan C. Horowitz, Esq., RN has been a frequent presenter at national and state conferences dealing with legal aspects of long-term care for more than 20 years. He has authored over 100 articles and written chapters in books, including the recent publication of a chapter, "The Legal Aspects of Geriatric Medicine," edited by Dr. Michael Wasserman et al. He focuses his legal practice on defending SNFs from inappropriate CMS enforcement actions and provides compliance guidance. Prior to joining Arnall Golden Gregory LLP in 2012, Alan was an Assistant Regional Counsel in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' (HHS) Office of the General Counsel where he represented CMS, especailly with a focus on long-term care issues and litigation. Alan also served as the Director of Clincal and Legal Affairs for the Instutute of Safe Medication Practices (ISMP) and was the Acting Director of ECRI's National Center for Independant Medical Review. Both ISMP and ECRI are Patient Safety Organizations, certified by HHS.
