Ahmed Vanker is a Physician Assistant at Extendicare, supporting the Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Matthew Morgan. In his role, he leads the antipsychotic deprescribing initiative and actively contributes to the organization’s quality improvement programs and infection prevention and control (IPAC) strategies. He is an international medical graduate, certified in IPAC and palliative care best practices.
Prior to joining Extendicare, Ahmed worked as long-term care clinician providing care to residents, including in outbreak units during the early stages of the pandemic. His experience working on the front lines of long-term care in Ontario provided valuable first-hand insight into residents’ clinical needs, the rate of polypharmacy often encountered in long-term care settings, and the experiences of care teams as they work collaboratively to deliver quality care every day.
